Bryce Harper angers Mets fans over souvenir-ball balk

Another day, another slew of some other team’s sports fans angry at Bryce Harper. This time, it’s Mets fans who jeered the Nationals‘ No. 34 after he faked out some fans at Citi Field by pretending to throw them a souvenir ball.

Harper’s fake-out came at the end of the first inning when he caught a flyball near the first base line. Harper then ran over to the group of fans vying for the ball before pretending to throw it and keeping it in his glove instead.

Many people, including NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, didn’t appreciate the move.

Maybe this is what Harper meant by making baseball fun again?

Hopefully not, though. It seems toying with the opposing team’s fans in this matter is a bad-luck charm: When Votto messed with Nats fans, the Reds lost, 3-2. When Harper messed with Mets fans, the Nats lost, 5-1.

Forget fun — let’s win again.
